Emotions, Bowel Health and Colonics by: Lisa Nectoux, RN, Certified Colon Therapist This article helps in the understanding of the mind/body connection between the release of old waste matter from the large intestines with colon hydrotherapy and the release of old emotional patterns. In Traditional Chinese medicine life energy or "chi" is thought to flow along channels or paths known as meridians. An imbalance of emotions(yin and yang) can negatively affect the functioning of the colon by blocking the corresponding meridian. Emotions can get stuck along the meridian of the colon often revealing themselves as constipation or diarrhea. According to the concepts of many Energy healing modalities, each chakra governs a different aspect of human emotion and behaviour. The colon's functioning is intimately connected with the base or root chakra, which is aligned with the material world, our basic security, stability, courage, patience and our sense of personal power. When this chakra is under/overfunctioning or blocked subtle energy flow becomes imbalanced and dis-ease results. This can manifest as insecurity, violence, greed, anger, constipation, lower back pain, irritable bowel syndrome or spastic colon. Psychology has established the complex system of how thoughts and emotions affect functions of the body. Emotions and thoughts are bonded together. They seem separate but are not at all. Both thoughts and emotions influence each other and the body. Learning to be more aware of the emotions you are experiencing can be the difference between initiating a flood of stress hormones producing an inflammatory response or a relaxation response stabilizing blood pressure, blood sugar and mood. Biologically, scientists have recently found that strings of amino acids called neuropeptides store emotions and memories in the muscle cells and the organs in the body. The physical pracitice of colon hydrotherapy assists in releasing these pent up emotions. The direct hands- on touch of the abdomen combined with the direct contact of the pressure of the water on the walls of the colon activates the cells encoded with the emotions allowing them to surface. So when the colon, which is a muscular organ, is massaged and the water is infused old feelings release along with the toxic waste matter held in by these emotions. It is a blessing to have these issues surface. Physically your body will feel lighter and be rid of toxicity that pollutes the blood. Emotionally, rather than continuing to repress these feelings, this release provides an opportunity to positively deal with a situation and heal yourself. A series of colon hydrotherapy sessions in combination with any of the above alternative therapies or psychotherapy gives the client a natural path in which to heal and change old emotional patterns for the better. ref:"The Colon Meridian". www.Acupuncture-and-chinesemedicine.com. 18 Sept.2011 ref: Spradlin, Scott, E.
